Abstract

Groundwater-surface water interactions in karst systems play a critical role in regional water resources, yet their dynamics remain complex and site-specific. This study investigates the biogeochemical characteristics of groundwater and surface water within the Edwards Aquifer, South-Central Texas, to assess connectivity, recharge mechanisms, and geochemical evolution. Major ion chemistry, trace elements, were analyzed to distinguish water sources and mixing processes. Results indicate significant seasonal variations in geochemical parameters, reflecting rapid recharge and dynamic exchange between groundwater and surface water. Anthropogenic influences, such as urbanization and agricultural activities, also impact water quality. These findings enhance the understanding of hydrological processes in karst aquifers and provide critical insights for sustainable water management in the region.
