Abstract
In recent years, the Northern Triangle of Central America, comprising the countries of El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala, has seen the highest exodus of its population since the Cold War. Although there are many push factors that drive emigration, gender-based violence has emerged as a critical issue in there region with many fleeing to seek refuge in countries that secure their safety. Gender-based violence is defined as “a host of harmful behaviors that are directed at women and girls because of their sex, including wife abuse, sexual assault, murder, rape, forced prostitution, genital mutilation and sexual abuse. Specifically, violence against women includes any act of verbal or physical force, coercion , or life-threatening deprivation. Going beyond physical harm, gender-based violence impacts on migration raises many questions.
